When I was 20, I had a tongue ring for about six months and I loved it. I cried when it fell down the drain one day and was lost to me forever. But what I learned from it will help me for a long time.
One of the things you have to do with a new tongue ring is rinse your mouth out with Listerine after every time you eat for a week or so. I, being an overachiever, rinsed my mouth out with Listerine for about a month. Lo and behold, the next time I went to the dentist, the hygenist was appalled at my jewelry, but ecstatic over my gums.
Fast forward to the other day. I was oh-so-casually trying to get popcorn out from between my teeth when my gums started to complain. A swift regimen of flossing and Listerine and they're as good as... well, 25 year old gums can be.
O thank you tongue ring for making me a better, healthier person today. Never again will I equate rebelliousness with ill health or bad smell.
