Happiness is a new CD by a favored artist. Got Afterglow after about a month of harassing the CD shop. They have to get a shipment from Moscow, which is where all the bootlegging takes place. In Uzbekistan, I think it's probably impossible to buy a real CD by an artist who isn't Uzbek. I feel the psychic weight of my betrayal to Sarah McLachlan in a way I haven't felt for Nine Inch Nails, Rusted Root, Evanessence and other assorted artists I have on bootlegged CDs. I comfort myself with a big "can't be helped." It's interesting that Americans are so persecuted for downloading a couple MP3s, and assaulted with dire proclamations such as "Technology is the End of Music!" when there's a continent where a person couldn't get a real CD if they wanted to. I've heard Thailand is worse. It's hard to fathom.
Not posting this last part to get in a political debate (or rather, what I just said for that matter), but did anyone else read this and go "wooohee!"?? (whether that's a bad or good "wooohee!" is up to you)
